We share this world with many other people. Sometimes, we get so caught up in our own piece of the world, that we ignore those around us. We get to a point in our day where others that we see are invisible to us.
Sometimes, that is okay, when we are in a space of happiness and joy. However, there are times when we need to be present enough to notice those around us. Take for example, you are standing in line at your favorite shop to get a cup of coffee. Most people are looking down at their “electronic gizmo” without making eye contact with any of the other people in line. You might usually do the same.
What would happen if you raise your head and look around? Maybe strike up a conversation with those around you in line? Would you feel more “connected” with the community? We would argue that when you are engaged in your surroundings you will feel the connectedness that is present.
It can start by talking to those next to you in the coffee shop line, and expand to wider and wider geographic distances. Eventually, you might expand your “startup conversations” to those around the world. Maybe, you will then begin to understand that everyone and everything is “connected.” That means the world feels the hurt going on in a country. The world feels the impact of the polluted oceans. You feel at some level, the happiness taking place elsewhere. We all are “in it together.”
Today, is a good day to practice the feeling of being “connected.” Take time to look around you and to see if you can understand someone across the room without communicating with them. Someone, you have never met. Look around at the park, and feel the trees, the grass, and the animals inhabiting nature. Be present enough to understand their needs and motivations. Be present enough to enjoy the energy of nature.
Nature can provide enough energy to help revitalize you on the dreariest of your days. Maybe you feel a little extra tired today. Get out in nature, and feel the energy emanating from the trees, the plants, the rocks, and everything else around you.

When you realize that you are sharing the planet with many other creatures, you may begin to see that you are in fact connected to those very creatures. Take the time to recognize them and you may find that others will take the time to recognize and acknowledge you!
