Adversity Thinking

When you are faced with adversity how do you react?  Do you stay in bed and sleep later, or do you get up earlier and attack your day?

Life is full of “ups and downs” and challenges.  There are times in our lives when things seem to be “in flow” and other times when everything seems to be “out of sync.”  When you understand these changes in your life, it is easier to accept them, embrace them, and move through them.

We talked previously about how when you are feeling negative emotions, the world has a tendency to reflect back negative events.  However, when you are full of positive emotions, the world has a tendency to reflect back positive events.   This law applies to adversity and challenges as well.

Sometimes, we think we are being faced with adversity when that event is actually a reflection of our current state of mind.  When faced with the same challenge, some people choose to look at the challenge as a negative experience, while others look at it as a time for growth and learning.  When you face your world as an opportunity, rather than a “sentence” it is much easier to shift your thinking.

When you have a “shift” in thinking you are often able to reduce the challenge to a minimal event in your life.  However, if you view the challenge as some insurmountable mountain that you should climb, you have set yourself up for a difficult task.   Think about how your mind can affect your actions.

When you think that something will be easy, you expect it to be easy, and you believe it will in fact be easy – it usually transpires as “easy.”  However, when we expect something to be difficult, we expect it to produce pain in our lives, and we believe it will be painfully difficult – it usually transpires just as we expect.
