Anti-aging Attitude

Posted - Jan• 19•16

“I wanted to get my knees done, while I’m young.”

“But, grandma, you are 82.”

“That’s right.  While I’m young!”

Age is a state of mind.  Yes, sometimes, the body does not keep up with the mind, but the mind controls your attitude.  With your attitude comes the body.  If the body is not quite what it used to be, the attitude originating from your thoughts can make up for the deficiencies.

Sometimes, we need to accept the changes due to age, however difficult that might be.  However, that does not mean that we have to quit living!  Rather than longing for the way things once were, we simply need to adapt to the way that they are now!  Life is full of opportunity and love.  The question is whether or not your aging body overcomes the power of the mind, or you overcome the aging body!

With age, comes many things.  Some of them better than the younger years, and some of them a bit less desirable.  When we understand that no matter how hard we try.  No matter how many “tucks” and “lifts” we do – the aging drum continues to beat.  The interesting thing is that with age, might come wisdom – although that is not a guarantee.

Each of us needs to work at growth no matter where we are on the timeline of this lifetime.  We cannot assume that our “wisdom” grows with each birthday.  No, we need to consciously work at it.  Often times, nature helps in that regard through the aging body.

We are not our physical selves, which can be difficult to understand.  However, as the body ages, it is sometimes an easier lesson to grasp.  The physical self is much like a “shell” in the ocean that is the temporary housing for many creatures.  This “shell” is the same.  You have and will have many “shells” to reside within throughout time.

Today is a great day to appreciate your self for where you are at this moment in your life.  If you are young and active, you might be longing for more age and stability.  If you are older and less able, you might be longing for youth.  However, the key to life is to enjoy and appreciate this very moment for all the “good” and the “bad” that comes with it.

Look to the future not with want, but with optimism.  Look to the past, not with want, but with fond memory.  Take in this breath, hold it while you appreciate this very moment of your life – for with the exhale, it too passes you by!
