“Appreciate each and every person in your life, so you will have no regrets when they are gone.”
Ω
Who are you taking for granted? Who are you subconsciously thinking will “be around” for a long time? Why are we taking people for granted?
These are questions that you might want to start asking yourself. First, we might talk about what it means to “take someone for granted.” That phrase will mean different things to each person, but we will define a couple of scenarios.
Suppose you think that your children are young and you have lots of time to play and be with them. Yes, you need a break from young toddlers, but literally before you realize it, your children will be grown and out on their own. When we take a child for granted that means we feel that when they are vying for our attention we will always be able to provide the attention that they desire – later. For many, later never comes or the children find other means to satisfy their needs.
Another scenario might be relative to your partner. Taking your mate for granted is easy to do. After all, they are always at your side and it’s only natural to think that will continue. However, as many people have experienced that can come to an abrupt end. That is why it’s so important to take the time to show affection, compassion and be the emotional support that they desire. In turn, they should do the same for you.
Why do we talk about taking people for granted? One of the reasons is to remind you that this lifetime is temporary. Yes, your spirit and your being is infinite, but this physical lifetime is not. It’s temporary for everyone. Some people feel deep down that they have “plenty of time” because they are “young.” Others, somehow convince themselves that later is a given. However, we are here to tell you to take advantage of this moment and do not take for granted anyone who you care about in your life.
Today is a great day to go above yourself and watch your interactions and thoughts. Are you subconsciously taking people who are important to you “for granted.” Are you putting off the things that you should be acting on now – without waiting? Watch yourself, and make conscious decisions about the priorities in your life, and give those priorities your time and energy.
