Balancing Acts

The lady leaned forward so her knees were on top of her elbows.

“Now lean slowly until you feel your feet lift off of the ground,”  announced her instructor.

The lady slowly felt her feet lift off of the ground as she stayed perfectly balanced on her elbows.

When we have “balance” in our lives, things flow much easier.  We are tapping into the universal flow of energy, and are allowing things to happen the way they were intended.  When we have balance in our lives, we begin to see how some things that seem difficult, suddenly become easier.

Having “balance” can mean different things to different people.  In this context, we are talking about being able to understand one’s desires and keeping those desires “in check” against one’s responsibilities.  When you can keep both of those areas working together, rather than “pulling” apart, you will have balance in your life.

When we look at our desires in life, we often times would like nothing but the “reward.”  However, we understand that we have many responsibilities and commitments that we must also do.  If we have a job, we may need that money to help in the purchasing of our “desires.”  If we have children, we will need to make sure they are fed, clothed, and healthy.

The list of responsibilities and commitments change as we go through the “cycle of life.”  The list of desires usually changes as well.  Often times, we find that our desires transform from one of materialistic in nature to other desires that may not cost any money whatsoever.   When we grow, our commitments and desires typically grow and change with us.

Think about a desire that you have at this point in your life.  It could be a well-deserved vacation, a new car, a home to call your own, a college degree, etc.   Now think about the commitments that you have in your life.  Maybe you are a parent of children still at home.  Maybe you have aging parents, or family members.  You might have a lot of people counting on you in your job.  The list goes on and on.

Now, how much time have you spent working on those commitments in the past few days?  Similarly, how much time have you spent doing some of the things that you would like to do in life?  They may not be on your “desires” list, such as that big vacation, but maybe it was time relaxing on the couch or reading a book.  We understand, that most people spend much more time servicing their commitments and responsibilities than they do spending time for themselves.

However, if you really look at the full twenty-four hour period, it may not be as bad as you think.  Especially, if you consider the time spent sleeping as time for “yourself.”  Many people do not attempt to spend any time for themselves during the week, and reserve that time for the weekend.  In those cases, you may find that your life is out of balance.

We suggest that you take the time each and every day for yourself.  No matter if it’s ten minutes sitting in quiet or taking the time to go for a long run or walk.  Let yourself do something for yourself, each and every day or you may find that when you are out of balance in your life, everything in your life becomes out of balance.
