Balancing Moments

Posted - Nov• 05•14

When we plan for the future, we need to balance those plans with the present.    Sometimes, when we are out of balance, we either live too much for the future, while ignoring this life’s moment, or we ignore the future while living this life’s moment.

How does one know when their life is balanced, with the current moment and plans for the future?  One indication that you are in balance is if you feel that you have not “missed out” on the past few years, weeks, or months, while feeling a bit of comfort with what the future might hold.  You may not be in balance, if you have absolutely no idea what your future might hold, and the past few years, months, and weeks have been rather challenging.

In those cases where you feel you are not in balance, you might start to define your beacons for where you would like to be in the upcoming weeks, months, years, and decades.  Start with the farthest  beacon in time away from this moment, and work your way to this day.   Everyday, you should be taking a step, no matter how small, towards your farthest beacon.  That way, you can begin to feel a sense of comfort for the way out future.

However, some people place all of their focus on the far out beacons, while ignoring the more immediate ones.  In this case, it is important that you define closer beacons in time, like where you want to be in the upcoming weeks, and days.   Each day, make sure you take a step towards those “closer in” beacons so that you are not ignoring this life’s moment for one that you hope to have in the future.

Balancing, the future and the present can be challenging.  However, you can do it quite easily, if you set your intentions.  Most of the time, we either work each day to “stay afloat” without really knowing where it is we would like to be.  When you set an intention for this gift of “another day on the planet” you will find that each step, begins on this very day.  It is when we make assumptions about doing the things we need to do now can be done another time, is when we are not living with the gratitude that this moment deserves.

Balance the future moments with the moment that lies before you – now.  Know that when you set your intention for this moment, you will not squander it away, but will live your life to the fullest!
