Birthdays Are Perfect

Posted - Nov• 10•14

Birthdays are a good time to reflect on your life.  It’s an opportunity to look back over the years.  Although it may seem on the outside that the “good ole days” are behind you, and you may yearn to repeat those times, you may realize that today you are right where you need to be.

The children are grown and may have families of their own.  You may have enjoyed those child-bearing years or the early years of your marriage.  However, you also may remember the stresses that went along with those times.  The stresses of going to school yourself, courting a partner, and going out on your own as you left the nest.  Yes, those were good times, but also were times that you would probably not want to repeat.

As time goes by, and the birthdays start to accumulate, you realize the wisdom you have acquired – with the sense of security you may have either achieved or have abandoned the thought of achieving.   Yes, your life is perfect right where it is.  A birthday is a good day to realize that you have lived and walked another year on this planet.  Yes, you have lived a year that others whom you probably know, have not.  Yes, a birthday is a time to take a “gratitude inventory.”

Look around you, and be grateful.  What are the things in your life for which you are grateful – some of which may not have existed in prior years?  Yes, today is a day for gratitude.  Life is short, and we have an opportunity to awaken to another beautiful day.  Remember the past fondly.  Do not worry what the future holds.

Today is the day that lies before you – treat it as a “golden day” that is to be celebrated in your heart.  If it is your birthday – so much the better!
