No matter what it is you are doing, you generally have two choices. You can either “go through the motions” with little effort, or you can give it your all. Many times, we just feel like “coasting” through the day. Maybe we are towards the end of our work day, and we are tired. There is a tendency to take it a little easier and finish with little effort and energy use.
However, when we treat life like the gem that it is, we will have the respect for life and give everything that we do, our full attention and energy. That means if we are cooking a meal, we put our heart and soul into it. If we are having a conversation, we engage in listening and being attentive. If we are hired to do a job, we give our work everything that we have.
The reason for engaging ourselves fully in life is because if we are going to “try” something, we need to “do it.” Do not commit to things that you are not willing to fully engage in. Yes, it’s okay to say “no.” However, when you say “yes” to something, be prepared to give it everything.
We challenge you today, to look at the commitments you have in your life. You may be working in a job, and are a parent, and a spouse. Look at the commitments, both explicit and implicit that you have made to the people involved. Are you bringing everything you have to those commitments? Yes, we understand the challenge of bringing everything all of the time. However, do you ever bring everything?
Today is the challenge to look at your commitments, and “bring it.” Give those commitments your full energy, attention and engagement. Do not worry about what you will do tomorrow, and if you can maintain that level of energy. Today is all that you are concerned about. At the end of the day, look at the places where you gave it your all, and ask yourself objectively as the observer if you enjoyed it. Now, you will have your answer about what to do tomorrow.
