Find Your Wings

Posted - Jan• 08•15

The grasshopper asked the butterfly, “What is it like to fly?”

The butterfly replied, “It is wonderful.  It’s like nothing you can imagine.”

“I wish I could fly.”

“See those things on your back.  Give them a flap and you can fly, too.”

Often times, we look at others with envy.  We wonder what it would be like to be able to have a particular talent, or to be able to live in a particular way.  The interesting thing is that many of us look at those people almost as if they are from another planet, rather than as an example for how we might do the same – or more!

The grasshopper didn’t even realize that he had wings of his own, that could allow for him, too, to fly.  He saw the butterfly flying around and wondered what flying would be like.   The question he should have asked, is how does he do it?

When we start asking how, rather than why, we can begin to see how things can be done.  We can understand some of the things that we need to do.  However, the question of “why?” is still important.  Why is it we want to do these things in the first place?   As soon as the grasshopper realizes he has wings that can allow him to fly, he needs to come to grips with “why” it is he would like to fly.

Suppose you possess a particular talent that could allow for you to express yourself in such a way that others before you have done.  You might want to check in with your passions to see if that talent is aligned with your inner truth.   Just because you have wings does not mean that you need to fly if that is not your passion.

Let your passion help identify what it is you would like to pursue.  Then look for the “wings” that you already have on your back so that you can learn to fly!
