Kindness is the sharing of one’s energy with another. That energy could be in the form of actions, or stored energy in money or other material goods. Sometimes, the energy can come in the form of a simple smile. To be kind to another need not be difficult, but should be natural.
The key to kindness is to begin with yourself. When you understand how to be kind to yourself, it can then be a natural extension to show kindness towards others. When we understand that every other person has “things going on” in their lives, we can then accept the fact that we are not “special” with the things going on in our own lives.
Kindness begins with a decision to “see” others. How many times do you go to a restaurant place your order with a waiter or waitress and then ask, “is that our server?” to those at your table. Did you take the time to “see” the person taking your order? Do you see other people who you encounter throughout your day?
Kindness starts with “seeing” everyone you encounter. However, that, too begins with “seeing” yourself. Take a deep look inside of you and find the kindness within. Be kind to your body, to your mind, to your life! Give yourself permission to do something for yourself! Kindness may seem like it begins with service to others, but we would argue that it begins with yourself.

Today is a good day to truly “see” the people you encounter. Give them a simple smile and connect with them, if even only for a moment. When we are kind to all creatures, we can see the beauty in each of those creatures!
