First Day of Summer

Posted - May• 09•14

The balloon sagged as it filled with water.  The boy carefully held his hand under the balloon to support it as it stretched.  He removed it from the faucet and tied a difficult knot.

“Look out, this one is full,” he yelled as he ran across the lawn chasing his brother and his friends.

Summertime has officially begun as the boys celebrate the completion of their last day of school.

Summertime is a time where the reward of a school year is bestowed upon the students as they give their minds a rest for a few months.  A vacation of sorts, to take a break from the stresses of school and the long hours of studying and home work.  As the students grow, the pressures increase and the demands are tightened.

From young children to young adults in college, summer is a special time.  It is a time for celebration of another year of school under their belts.  A graduation of sorts to the next grade or level.  Someday, they think, they will be “done” with school.  However, with that, most likely the summers will also come to an end.

Enjoy the “summers” of your life.  You may not have an official period of “time off” from your daily career or commitments.  However, there are times when things in your life are running more smoothly and you can enjoy those periods – like you once enjoyed your summers “off.”

If you have the opportunity, with children at home during the summer, spend some time to do some things with them.  Take a day off work and go to the  zoo, or have a picnic in the park.  Let the celebration of summer carry over to the entire family.  After all, the “summer celebrations” are limited and you need to appreciate each and every one.

Life is about the change of seasons.  Some people are going through a long and difficult winter.  Others are seeing the summer that is approaching.  No matter where you are in your life, you can always have “summer days.”  The choice is really yours.  If you feel this is a difficult time in your life – change it. You really have that power.

Yes, the way you live your life is really similar to how you would live your summers.  At first you might be rather excited about the time off from school, but sometimes you quickly became “bored” and found little remaining excitement.  That is okay, but you must realize that only you can give yourself permission to be “bored” and only you can give yourself permission to be “excited.”  Which is it going to be today?

Life is about choices, and what we realize as we grow is that our behaviors, attitudes, and emotions are actually a result of our thoughts.  Our thoughts come from many places, like our ego, our beliefs, and what we think is our reality.  However, our thoughts actually create our reality.  Like a dog chasing its tail it is difficult to know which came first – the thoughts or our reality.

We can stop the chasing, though, and begin to fill our mind with empowering thoughts so that we can adjust our reality to a positive one.  Stop the negative thinking, and open up to only thoughts that energize and empower you.  Think about that first day of summer, and how the excitement was energizing and unstoppable.  Now, transfer some of that excitement to this moment and this day.

Let go of whatever is holding you down, and look up to the potential of the space above you into the clouds.  Your life is always able to celebrate that first day of summer – if you let it.  Let go of the negativity and fill yourself with the helium necessary to fly above the clouds like a circus balloon.  You have it within you, it just needs to have your permission to surface.

Celebrate each day as though it’s the first day of summer, and watch your reality change to only see life as though it were in fact the first day of summer.
