Fish Tank

Posted - Aug• 21•14

Have you ever experienced a time in your life when you thought you wanted something, or wanted to accomplish something that would make your life the best?  Then, when you finally received what you thought you wanted or made the great accomplishment, you realized that it wasn’t enough?

Maybe you were looking forward to quitting your job and retiring.  You had great plans to play golf, relax, take up a hobby and travel the world.  Then maybe your body and the universe had other plans, or you found that those things were not fulfilling for you.  At some level, you became bored with your life and sort of missed the daily work routine that you had experienced for decades.

When you were in that “work routine” you could not wait until you didn’t need to work anymore and could retire to do whatever you wanted.  Now, you have that, but you still feel a little unfulfilled.   Why do you suppose that is?

Well, one of the reasons may be because it is human nature to always look for something better.  It is the ego who is never satisfied.   When we are looking outward for our life’s fulfillment of happiness and joy, we are never able to achieve it.   Much like a fish in a tank looking beyond the glass barrier thinking life must be better on the other side – we have a tendency to forget about having gratitude for our lives.  We may not have a need for anything in our lives, but when we feel unfulfilled, it is an indication that we think something is missing.

There might be a tendency to place some of the “blame” on others for our plight.  We might resent our mate who was able to build a career, while we stayed home to raise the children.   We might think that someone else is the reason we feel unfulfilled.  However, looking outward for the reason, is in fact the reason itself.  Look inward, and open up to your inner “truth.”  Take full responsibility for your life and where you are at this moment.  The responsibility is yours and yours alone.

Sure, we may have commitments in our life, but we can certainly obtain a sense of fulfillment that comes from inside of us.  When we continually look outward for our happiness and joy, we are like the fish thinking life is better outside of its tank.  That is a futile effort, and one that will always leave you feeling unfulfilled.

Be honest with yourself, and admit the reasons for why you may be lacking a state of constant happiness and joy.  Let yourself sink into those reasons, and make a conscious decision to take responsibility for your life!  When you do that, you will see that everything and everyone around you are exactly how they need to be.
