Sometimes happiness is unrecognized by us. We have happiness buried deep within our hearts, but we fail to uncover it. We think that our “happiness” will come at a later time, and fail to see what we have in front of us at this moment.
Think about the excitement of an upcoming vacation. You may plan on that trip to bring relaxation and happiness to you and your family. However, at this moment you do not “expect” happiness since you are working and going through your normal every day “grind.” We could have happiness right now, but we need to look for it.
What can give you happiness right now, but you fail to see it? We are not talking about external things done by people outside of yourself. No, we are talking about you taking responsibility for your happiness right now! What would you do to find happiness at this very moment? What are you ignoring while you are “waiting” for that “event” which you expect to be the “holy grail” of happiness?
The truth is, that if you cannot see the happiness that is around you at this moment, no “event” will bring any sustained happiness to you. Sure, you may have some immediate happiness during the event or shortly thereafter, but it will be short-lived. The vacation will soon be over, and you will be right back where you are now. The “happiness event” will have passed and you will be ignoring the happiness that is available to you now.
So, what “event” are you waiting for to bring this happiness to you? Did you consider going and “getting happiness?” Much like an athlete that is waiting for the ball to come to them, to find that someone else snatches it from their grasp before it arrives – you cannot wait for happiness to come to you. You need to jump into the air and grab it!
Happiness requires an active participant. You cannot sit back and wait for happiness to come to you. You need to go find the happiness that exists around you – for which you are ignoring. Happiness seems so illusive to many, while others see happiness in everything that they do.

The first secret to obtaining a constant state of happiness is to recognize the happiness that is all around you. When you begin to understand that happiness is always available to you, you will find that it can be enjoyed every moment of your life. It is the people who “wait” for happiness that do not recognize it when they have it!
