Gratitude Extinguishes Fear

Posted - Oct• 23•14

When you start to get nervous and you can feel fear creeping into your thoughts, it is time to look to gratitude to keep you focused.   Quickly find ten things for which you are grateful – especially things that might be closely related to your fears.

For example, suppose you are having a medical test to “rule out” various things.  That can be a fearful time, but one where you need to keep your focus on the positive things that you would like to attract into your life, or keep in your life.  So, you might look for things related to the health of your body for which you are grateful.  “I am grateful for my eye sight.  I am grateful for the ability to think clearly, etc.”

When we begin to get nervous about say our financial situation, we can look to gratitude to help stay, or return to, a place of peace and calm.  “I am grateful for our home.  I am grateful for being able to buy groceries.  I am grateful for my job, or my ability to work, etc.”

If you find yourself in a situation where you are worried about an upcoming event, or afraid that something bad might happen – you can look to gratitude as well.  “I am grateful for this day and all the days of my life.  I am grateful for my friends and family.  I am grateful for the sun and this beautiful autumn day, etc.”

Fear is motivated by the ego.  It can be your ego, or the egos of the community at large.  The ego loves to have people living in fear because that creates the negative emotions for which it feeds.   Turn to love and you will see the fear disappear in your life.  However, you can practice these techniques to replace any future fears that may creep into your life with the peace and calm, joy and happiness that has its roots in love and gratitude.

Live this day rooted in gratitude.  Every time you catch yourself having a negative emotion stemming from a negative thought – find gratitude.   Whenever someone irritates you – find gratitude.  Whenever you feel fear – find gratitude.  Whenever you feel a nervousness – find gratitude.  Gratitude is the way to stomp out negativity rooted in fear, for gratitude is rooted in love!
