I Love My Life

Posted - Feb• 28•14

“I love my life. I love my life.”  The man kept repeating to himself as he was wheeled into the operating room.  His wife held his hand until they reached the big doors that open automatically so the gurney could easily pass through.

After the man awoke, his wife was with him, telling him that everything went well and that he was going to be okay.  A day ago, the man’s life had changed as he realized he needed an emergency surgery to remove the tumor that was large enough to rupture at any moment.

The man smiled to his wife, and said, “I love my life.”  The wife smiled back and gently squeezed his hand.   The next day the man made his way back to his home seeing it for what appeared to be the first time.  Noticing things that he did not realize had been in his home for years. The pictures on the wall, the little statues and figurines scattered about on book cases and shelves.   The flowers blooming in the back yard, the color of his wife’s lip stick.  He was amazed at all of the things and beauty in his life that had gone unnoticed.

As a businessman, he was always “wrapped up” in his business.  Is there enough money to make payroll?  Is the product going to ship on time?  Are the employees happy?  It seemed the business consumed most of his life.  After  a while, he realized with the help of a medical emergency, that he was missing much of the beauty in his life.

Sure, the business required long hours and hard work, but maybe now he could take more time to enjoy the life that he created.  After all, how can one love his life without living it?

The man opened the door to his patio, revealing the spacious views as spring was beginning to come alive.   The sun shone brightly on a park bench waiting for an occupant.   The man grabbed his wife and asked her to join him.  The two of them sat for what seemed like hours enjoying the view and the warm sun shining brightly on their faces.

The man needed a medical emergency to realize how good of a life he has.  Some people go through life always wanting more, or striving for greater and greater accomplishments.  When they achieve those accomplishments, and have “arrived” at a beacon, they soon “forget” and want even more out of their life.

It is certainly okay, and encouraged to set beacons and have a “destination” in life, but the key is to be satisfied this very moment.  To understand and accept that your life is perfect in every way.  This moment, is in fact YOUR life!  There is no waiting for a future moment, or lamenting over a past moment.  This moment right now defines your life.

The question is, do you love your life?

When you can love your life the way it is at this very moment, you begin to understand that life is not about achieving some future event, or wishing for the repeat of past experiences.  Rather your life is about right now!  Are you going to embrace and accept your life at this very moment, and love the life you are living?  That is for you and only you to decide.
