“What’s the date today.”
“The same date it was an hour ago when you last asked.”
“I know, I just can’t remember.”
Ω
Do you ever find yourself asking the same question over and over again? Maybe you look at your phone to see what time it is and then a minute or two later you can’t remember and have to look again?
Some people refer to these kinds of moments as not being “grounded” if you are in “another place,” or just not “being present.” Whatever the case, it is common and can be easy to overcome – with a little practice.
The first step in overcoming this “non-presence” issue is to realize that it is happening. Pay attention to cues to alert you that you are not present. Do you remember eating that last bite of your lunch? Do you remember the name of the server who introduced himself? Do you remember the things that are otherwise “automatic?”
Once you realize that you are in this “non-presence” state, you can close your eyes for a few minutes and “realign” yourself. Slow your mind down, and visualize energy coming from the top of your head down throughout your entire body and out the bottom of your feet. Tell yourself, that you would like to be present, and to ground yourself.
Be intentional at your request to “be intentional.” That means, that you need to “intend” to live your moments with “intention.” Tell yourself that you want to notice everything in your day – the birds singing outside of your window, the man standing on the street corner, the time of day, whether or not you took your medicine, etc. Life can go by without notice if you let it!

Today is another great day to practice the skill of intending to be intentional. Catch yourself drifting off, and pull yourself back to this moment in your life. At the end of today, you might realize all of the things you thought were missing, but are already in your life!
