Keep On Going

Posted - Feb• 13•14

There are “races” in life that we run with no apparent “finish line.”  Getting through each day of work, school, or life running the household, can feel like a “race without a finish line.”  The desire to “keep on going” can sometimes be difficult.   The days, weeks, and years accumulate in this so-called race with no apparent end in sight.

Sure, someday the children will get older and go to school, making less of a need for their care.  Someday, you will get older and be able to retire from your career.  Someday, you will graduate and be done with the school or this particular school in your scholastic endeavors.  However, those “end points” can seem to be so distant when you are living it, that you may feel like “giving up.”

“Giving up” is a phrase often used when someone simply quits.  It’s a phrase used to say, “I’m done, and I do not care to go any further on this particular quest.”  Now, there may in fact be a time and place for putting an end to a particular endeavor.  However, for the sake of this discussion, we are going to assume that what you are doing is important and you would love to see it to the eventual end point.

We understand that getting out of bed each morning, when you are lacking the sleep that you would like to feel refreshed can be difficult.  However, we also will argue that it need not be difficult.  Difficulties are a manifestation of your thoughts, with you, the creator of said difficulty.  When you think something is going to be hard – it is.  When you think you have a tough life – you do.  If you need, go back and read the discussion on “You Create What you Think About.”

That applies, to the desire to continue on the path towards a beacon you have planted.  What you think about is what you create.   So, let’s think about the step that lies before you, rather than the end point that seems so distant.  Let’s look at the “next step” and when we get there, the step after that, and so on.  When the race seems to be getting long, look just a few meters in front of you.  That is all that is necessary to keep you going.

“Yes, I know I can run to the next tree, or the next mail box,”  you might say to yourself.  “Yes, I know I can make it to the shower,”  as you debate whether or not you can get out of bed.  “Yes, I know I can make it to work,” as you step into your car, or onto the bus.  “Yes, I can make it until lunch,” as you take care of the children who were up all night with a fever.

Take small steps to accomplish great things.  No one wants to take a journey of a “thousand miles,” but everyone can figure out even the tiniest of steps to take at this moment.  Eventually, when you reach your beacon, you can decide where to go next.

Keep on going, and do not look too far forward.  Life is only difficult if you let yourself convince you of that.  Tell yourself that your life is easy and great, and you will find that you are telling yourself the truth!
