Faces are everywhere! Some faces are smiling, others are frowning, and some are neither smiling nor frowning. Do you ever look into a crowd at some event and watch the faces that come in and out of your view? Often times, the children are smiling – not even attempting to hold back their excitement. Many times, the parents of those children have more of a “frazzled” face.
Faces are like snow flakes – no two are alike. Even identical twins have slight differences in their face, but also are showing different expressions at any one point in time. Have you ever thought about all of your faces? The first face that entered this world when you were an infant. A face covered in chocolate cake when you turned one year old. A face that was happy to turn sixteen. A face that smiled for a picture with your date to the high school prom. A face that cried when a loved one passed away. A face, that is in possibly the same expression for the past twenty years.
What does your face say about you? If a child sits on your lap, and traces your face with her finger, what will she be noticing? If you are older, she might be tracing around all of the wrinkles on your face. Signs of years of wear, and many years of experience. She might trace around your lips. Are they smiling, or flat like a cartoon character’s mouth? Are your eyes hopeful, or tired? Do you feel young, old, or somewhere in between?
Your face, is the expression that transitions your inner spirit to the physical world. The way you express yourself on your face, is an expression of what you have inside. When you smile, you generally are in a state of happiness and joy. When you are tearful, you are generally in a state of grief, or sadness. The question is, what state do you wear on your face the other 98% of the time?
Look in the mirror. Do you have any kind of expression? If you move your lips to form a smile, are you afraid things might crack? :) What does your face tell you about your life? What does it tell another about yourself? What can you do to express yourself in a way that tells who you are?
When you look at another person, you see their face. Younger adults have bright, happy faces. What happens to those faces? Maybe you are one of the few that has maintained that bright happy face, as the decades roll by. It’s not too late.
Look in the mirror and figure out what happened to that happy child inside, who could not hold back the smiles. Now, work on bringing that child back to you, so that you can use your face, to encourage the happiness inside. When we can smile on the outside, we are “lit up” with happiness on the inside. Be that happy person, and let go of the expressionless face that you may have been wearing.
