The kite soared high into the air until it became a little spec in the sky.
“I don’t see it anymore.”
“It’s over there,” the dad replied, pointing.
“Oh, yes, I see it now. Do you think we should start pulling it in? I don’t want the string to snap and lose it. This is my favorite kite, and tail.”
“Sure, take your time and start wrapping up the string. Hold on tight, though, it’s got a lot of force behind it.”
The boy slowly, but methodically, wrapped the string back around the roll as the kite grew larger in the sky.
That night, the boy dreamt about kites. That was one of the happiest days he’s had in a long time.

When we find something in our lives that may not produce an “output” we can find joy in knowing that we are doing something with a loved one. We do not always need to be working “towards” something, but can just enjoy the moment and connect with another. In this scenario, a dad and his son were able to spend time together watching a kite. The boy loved flying the kite, but the time with his dad was special.
When we can devote time to one another without regard for anything that “we need to do,” we are truly giving that person our undivided attention. We are letting go of the electronic devices and “unplugging” from the rest of the world, while we “plug into” a friend or family member.
Let go of the desire to always be running around “going” places, when right before you is everything that you need. Think outside of yourself and find ways to connect one-on-one with another. It’s the one-on-one connections that mean the most. Connecting like that, is difficult in a group. Yes, you may bring all of your children to fly a kite, but remember to find something special to do with each of them individually.
Something as simple as spending an hour flying a kite with a young child can go a long ways in building the connections that can last a lifetime and beyond. Think of ways to build connections with each person in your life, by coming to wherever it is they would like to take you. Let go and let yourself live.

Running around throughout the day in your career and general life can be exhausting. Find time to relax and to let go of all external commitments and commit time to yourself and those who are important to you in your life.
