Do you ever wonder why some people always appear to have everything “together” when you feel like you are doing good to just get out of bed? Sometimes things are not as they appear, but often times those people do in fact have their life organized in a way that they are able to accomplish the dreams that they have and do the thing that they would like to do.
Sometimes those people do not have things “together” at all, but put on a mask that makes it appear as such. It need not matter which is which for the different people who you may know or observe. When you look outwards to determine your own success you are measuring yourself against a criteria that you have no way of matching.
Measuring one’s accomplishments and their own sense of self-worth based on another, and sometimes based on a celebrity that you may not even know, is putting yourself in a no-win situation. Further, it is playing a game that you should not have a desire to play in the first place.
When you would like to determine your sense of success, or self-worth, you need to look inside for the answers and the criteria. First, we would like to say that every single living being is worthy of everything that they desire and accomplish so long as they do it with integrity and for the higher good of all.
Second, it is not necessary to measure one’s success or self-worth in the first place. Society places implied measurements on you throughout the day and throughout nearly every moment of your life. Turn on the television and watch the commercial that shows if you can afford to buy their product you will have nice clothes, attractive people in your life and be happy. Schools set measurements of knowledge, which is implied “smartness,” on a grade for a test written by someone who thinks they know how to measure such things.
Your boss may measure your success based on the sales you make for the company or the number of customers that you can process in your day, without regard for the “intangible contributions” you make, but are too difficult to measure.
Life is about measurements in the society for which you all live, that being the physical world at large. Pay attention to the measurements you put on yourself as well as others as you go about your day today. Unfortunately, that is the world you live in, and you may have little or no control over those measurements. If you are a student in college, you need to strive for the “good” grade, possibly in order to stay in college, to keep a scholarship, or to get through the interview door of your first job prospect.
However, you do have control over the measurements you place on yourself. Do you consider the success or failure of your career based on the salary that you earn? Do you measure the worthiness of your art based on the price and number of pieces that you may sell? Do you measure the worthiness of your writing based on the number of “views” you get on your website?
These are all measurements that can be eliminated and you can gauge your own skills and products based on internal “knowing’s.” Do you “know” that the piece of art you created is great? If so, understand that and do not let anyone tell you otherwise. Do you know that you are smart even though you received an undesirable grade in a class? Trust your inner self to make the important self assessments.

Giving others the power and authority to assess yourself, is never going to be enough for you to grow with the confidence that you need to understand that those assessments by others are unnecessary in your life.
