No Peeking

Posted - Feb• 27•14

“Close your eyes, no peeking”  proclaims the mom.  The children do as she says, by placing their hands over their eyes.  The youngest child, opens a slight crack between two of his fingers to let light into his right eye.  As the children excitedly wait, the mom “unveils”  a plate full of warm chocolate chip cookies.  “Okay, open your eyes” she announces.  The children immediately increase the size of the smile already on their faces as they reach for what looks to them like the most enticing cookie.

Remember the excitement of being a child.  The happiness of being a baby that has total trust in the universe that her needs will be met.  As the baby grows, the excitement of life stays within the soul to allow happiness and joy to enter her body, within an instant.  Children remember life in the non-physical world where there is no fear, worry, or anxiety.  It is the physical world that begins to instill those emotions the longer they live in it.

Remember back to when someone told you, “no peeking.”  You may remember a time as a young child, or possibly even as an adult when someone wanted to surprise you with a gift.  Remember the excitement of knowing that you are being “gifted” with something from a special person who wanted to make you happy.

The happiness provided from the gift is only part of the scenario, for much of the happiness comes from knowing that someone took the time to do something for you.  Knowing that another person cares about you. The size and price of the gift need not matter, for it could be a plate full of cookies to get the message of “I care about you” across.

Life is full of “cookie plates” but the question is whether or not we accept and appreciate, and even notice those gifts.  Sometimes life may provide a plate full of chocolate chip cookies, but we may have been hoping for sugar cookies and are disappointed.   The universe provides the “gifts” as we need them, in a way that is perfect for us at the given time.

The “gift” may not come in exactly the flavor that we prefer, but it is important to accept the gifts as though they are exactly what you need.  Look around today, to see what gifts are being provided to you by the universe, possibly through friends, family, or complete strangers.

The gift may be in the form of a joke passed to you, that makes you chuckle, forgetting for a moment the stress of your day.  Other gifts may be in the form of a friendly gesture on the highway in return for your kind act.  The “gifts” need not be “large” in size and value, but are all around you if you take notice.

Life is more than being the recipient of universal gifts.  Sometimes you may find that being the “giver” has more satisfaction and joy.  Do not ask for what you think you want out of life, but more importantly look for where the universe is guiding this life.  When you find that path, you can enjoy the journey, for you know you are heading in the direction meant only for you!
