Non-Planning

Posted - Jul• 11•14

“Which way do you want to go?”

“I don’t know yet.  I think we should decide when we get there.”

“Yah, depending on how it looks, that might be a good way to do it.”

The friends continued the drive to an unknown destination.  They were on a trip with little plans, and little preconceived notions.  They just wanted to do something different and explore the world, in a way they had not done before.

They were in a foreign country, did not speak the language, and were proceeding with an eye for adventure.  They let the universe decide who they should meet, where they should sleep, and where they should go.

When the reached the dead-end in the road.  The friends looked both ways and chose the route towards the sunset as they continued the drive through the foreign lands.

Sometimes in life, we have no destination, and let ourselves open up to the possibilities of the universe.  When we are able to free ourselves from the tendency to plan, we can sometimes see the synchronicities that were once unavailable to us.  We become “free.”

To be “free” means many things in different contexts.  In this context, to be “free” is to be fluid in motion with an allowance of all possibilities.  The friends were open to anything allowing the universe to guide them to meet people they needed to meet, and to see things they needed to see.  When we are so “rigid” in our lives, we leave little opportunity for “universal guidance.”

A person who allows for the unknown and unexpected in their life, is open to all possibilities.  A  person, who has every last detail of their day, their week, and their year planned leaves little room for spontaneity.  A spontaneity, that can lead to “freedom”. Freedom from the tether to a schedule.  Freedom from the need to stay in one place, doing one thing, with the same people.

Sure, there is a time and a place for scheduling your life’s activities.  We understand that.  What we are talking about here, is the need to schedule and plan nearly everything in your life.  Let go and be free.

One might ask, “how am I not free if I know what it is I’m doing?”  Yes, you are free, but you are not as open to the “possibilities” the universe may want to throw your way.  When you do not know the exact details of a trip, you are opening yourself up to the guidance provided by the universe.  Things may not seem as you would like, but they may be exactly where you need to be at any given moment.

Yes, we understand that you plant your beacons, and then we tell you to plan your next step.  However, we are talking about only the “next” step.  We want you to move in the general direction of your beacons, but not to plan the entire route!  That leaves little room for adjustments and for the universe to help guide you along the way.  Further, that opens yourself up to disappointment when you find that there is an obstacle in your perfectly planned journey.

When we are free from the requirements of a schedule in our life, we are open to all possibilities.  We might even decide to take the time to watch the unplanned beautiful sunset with a loved one!
