“When are you going to start?”
“Well, you know what they say. There is no time like the present.”
“How will you know what you need to do?”
“I will do an overall high level plan, and then start with the next step.”

Now is all that you have. When we live in the future, the future never comes. When we live in the past, we ignore the present. Our lives can be consumed with fears for the future, and lament over the past. The key is to push that all aside, and to live – right this moment.
When you think about it, the present is a very short period of time. However, when we define a “moment” that spans time, we can live in the present at all times. Think about this moment right now. You may be reading this in a coffee shop, on your phone while waiting in a doctor’s office, or wherever. The act of reading these words can be defined as a “moment.” The overall act of going to the doctor’s office can be defined as a larger “moment.” The act of this day, still a larger moment. This week, an even larger moment, etc.
There are moments within moments within other moments. So what really does it mean to “live in the moment?” Since every part of life defines multiple moments, that implies that you are living your life. When we “live our life” we have an idea of the bigger picture of who we are and why we chose to enter this life’s journey. We understand that our entire life is a moment, that consists of many more moments that can be broken down to the moment of these few minutes, reading this writing.
The problem is, it is easy to take these moments for granted. We have a tendency to assume that there will always be another moment. Another moment, when I can start to exercise. Another moment when I can begin to eat healthy. Another moment when I can play catch with my child. Another moment when I can take that family vacation.
However, the human experience is such that we never know how many “moments” we have remaining in this physical body. Reading these words, could be your final few moments. The key is to consciously decide how it is you would like to live your moments. Do you want to spend your life’s “currency” on arguing with your mate? Do you want to spend your life’s moments on passively sitting on the couch watching television?

The key is to live with intention. Understand the preciousness of this moment. Let yourself live with intention and happiness. So we ask, how are you going to live the moments remaining in this day?
