“Sometimes life doesn’t feel like it’s fun anymore.”
“Why is that?”
“I don’t know, but I think maybe I’m too old to have fun.”
“I don’t know much, but I know that being old is a state of mind!”

What does it mean to get old? It’s interesting how one’s perspective of “old” changes as we get older. Ask a young child the age of an “old person” and they are likely to reply with 20 or 30. As we grow older, we realize that the measuring stick we use for “old” seems to move with us.
When we get older, it seems that we “recuse” ourselves from many of the activities that we once participated in. Yes, there are physical activities that we may not be able to do anymore. However, we might find ourselves not participating in our birthdays and holidays as we once did. We might consider those things for the “younger people.”
Nothing says that you cannot enjoy your life as you get older! It’s okay to have fun. Yes, the idea of fun may have changed, but it’s up to you to figure out what it is for you! It’s pretty easy to help a child have fun, because society is so bent up on giving children fun events. Parents want their children to be happy and to have fun, especially on special occasions such as birthdays, holidays and vacations.
Huge theme parks have been built for people to have fun. Typically, the demographic is for children and younger people. However, what is it that older people can do for fun? It’s time to think outside of the box and make something fun.
For many it’s taking a vacation, possibly on a cruise. Look around at what some of your peers are doing for fun. It’s nice to take a big trip every so often, but what can you do for fun every day? What are the people in your neighborhood doing for fun? Join in, and let yourself be young again.

Getting old is a mindset. Sure the body may not be able to do the things it once did, but that does not mean that you are “old.” It seems that when we let ourselves be “old” we begin to act like it. Let yourself be young and continue to find the fun of your youth!
