One Stone at a Time

Posted - Sep• 22•14

“How do you build a pyramid?”

“How?”

“One stone at a time!”

“How do you live a life?”

“How?”

“One day at a time!”

Sometimes, it seems as though we have too far to go, in whatever it is we are doing.  If we are in school, we feel that it will be “forever” before we are finished and out in the working world.  If we are in the “working world” we feel that we are a hamster running on a wheel and not getting anywhere.  “Someday, we might be able to retire,”  we keep reminding ourselves.

When we retire, we wonder, “is this all there is?”  We quickly forget about the days when we were getting up early and staying at work late, just to make it to the “golden years.”  Now, we barely remember the working years and deal with the daily issues of health and with it the happiness for which we still pursue.

It seems that no matter what point we are at in our lives, we feel that something is missing.  The question is what is missing for you?   Sometimes, we understand that our life is not taking the route that we so carefully created for ourselves.   We envisioned a life with a mate, and children living “happily ever after.”  The interesting thing is the “happily ever after” part of our fantasy.

What exactly does “happily ever after”  really mean?   Take for instance, the concept of living happily from this point onward.  Does that mean that some event, such as meeting “prince charming” is the precipitous for happiness?   Does that imply that we cannot be happy without meeting “prince charming?”

When we create this fantasy in our mind about how our life should be lived, we might be setting ourselves up for difficulty ahead.  That is not to say that we should not set beacons for where we would like our life to be, which very well may be living with a mate and raising a family.   However, we need to understand that the path to get to those places is one that we must be open to.  We cannot plot the exact path for how we would like to arrive at those beacons.

When we create the exact way that we expect, or rather would like our lives to go, we are creating something that is not achievable.  As such, we are setting ourselves up for difficulty since there is no “prince charming” that can live up to that imaginary person.

Let go of the need to decide how your life should go.  Rather, look at the destination of the beacons and let the universe be your guide as you traverse the terrain.   When you can trust in the universal guidance, you will find that you are always exactly where you need to be.

Enjoy your life, and live each and every day.  This day will never be available for you again, to enjoy and love.  Let yourself be the light that shows the way to the world’s beacons!
