Life is full of little “detours” that can sometimes seem rather large at the moment. When you find yourself in the midst of an unexpected toppling of your carefully laid plans, you might take a deep breath, recompose yourself and move forward. When we can learn to let go of the little complications in life without losing our composure, we have made it another step to living a life of peace and calm.
Let go of the need to be right. Let go of the need to “beat up” on someone who makes a mistake. Let go of the expectation that everything in your world will run like the finely tuned motor of a clock. That is an unrealistic expectation that you simply cannot fulfill. No matter how careful you are in making sure your environment is organized and predictable, the unpredictable enters. The weather rains on the picnic, or someone fails to do what they promise. The universe will help to make things in your life be in “flow,” but does not promise the mode that you will take.
When we get fixated on the “mode of travel” we forget the goal of the destination. We forget to enjoy the “journey” with all of the unplanned “detours.” When you are in the “universal flow of energy” it need not matter “how” you get “there.” Let go of the need to control the “how” and be open to new, unplanned experiences. However you compose yourself when the messenger announces the change in your plans, is an area for which you may need work.
When the waiter proclaims that they are out of your favorite dish, how do you react? Do you simply ask for another recommendation or do you beat him up about it? When you get a parking ticket, do you blame the person who wrote the ticket, or do you take ownership over your lack of time management? When the flight for your trip is cancelled, do you get angry at the messenger of the news or do you move forward in making other plans?
As you go about your day today, take note of some of these “unplanned detours” and watch yourself from “above” to see how you handle these events. You may need to wait until you are back in a state of peace and calm before you can review in your mind the events and your behaviors.

Everyone in this world has much that they are dealing with. Adding the need to have to deal with you when then deliver undesirable news should not be another reason for their day to be a little worse. After all, isn’t one of our beacons to help make everyone’s day be a little better?

This actually came at a perfect time as some detours have come up with respect to our rental property. Thanks to reading this my response to the blips in the road will be more measured and hopefully calm.
