The water sprayed his face as the man stood in the shower. He let the warm soothing droplets help transition him from sleep to a wake state for the day. He tried not to think about his upcoming day, but rather, he focused on feeling each droplet hit his face, and run down his body. This was his time, to be present with himself, and to clear his mind so that he can be present for the day.
When we are doing a task that may be as mundane as chopping onions in the kitchen, or pulling weeds in the yard, we can make that task an opportunity to reconnect with ourselves. When we focus on the task, and nothing but that task, we can then let our mind present to us whatever it is the inner self would like to communicate.
Often times this occurs during meditation. However, many other activities can present the same opportunities for the inner self to communicate with you as meditation. However, if you are doing a job that may be dangerous with say, power tools, or operating machinery, it is best to stay completely present with the task at hand.
Take a task today that you normally perform while maybe listening to music, watching television, or talking on the phone and do it without any of those things. Let yourself do the task in your own silence and see how that might make the task seem like a sort of “reward” to be with yourself.
If you have difficulty “sitting quietly with yourself,” that may be an indication that you need to refine this skill. We might recommend that you begin with say just five minutes a day, until you begin to enjoy the process. After all, there will be times in your life when you will need to sit quietly with yourself, possibly not by choice, and it is best to make sure that you have developed the abilities to actually enjoy those times.

Being present in whatever you are doing is a wonderful thing. When you can do that, you begin to realize that beauty is everywhere and that you can access that beauty at any time.
