Racing Minds

Posted - Dec• 01•15

“Clear your mind of all the worry.  Clear your mind of all the fear.  Just be.  Enjoy this moment.”

So often in our lives, we are going a hundred miles an hour – all of the time.  Our minds are racing and we never seem to let up.  When you realize this state, it is a great opportunity to “reset” and to let go.

When this happens, close your eyes, and sit tall.  If it helps, let your head bob in circles, a figure eight, or whatever seems natural to you.  That can help  cue your mind that you are ready to clear it.   Let go of all of your thoughts.  It’s okay, you can take a few minutes without worry and fear.

Tell yourself that this is your moment, and one for you to enjoy.  Feel the sensation of your body.  Imagine you are taking a hot bath, or maybe are swimming in a calm, warm pool of water.  Do whatever feels natural.  Just let go of the racing mind.   Keep reminding yourself, that you are safe, free of fear and worry.  This is your moment to enjoy.  You deserve it.

When we forget to take care of ourselves, we find that we cannot take care of anyone else either.  Sure, we might be going through the motions, but we might not be present.  We might think that we are present, but others might argue differently.  It’s okay to find a few minutes each day to reset your mind and slow down the thoughts.

A racing mind can cause stress in the body and in your life.  When you let a million thoughts travel through your brain in an instant, it can be difficult to function.  You might have a conversation with someone and not remember any of it.  You might eat a meal, and not taste it.  You might drive somewhere and not remember how you got there!   These are all indications that you are “elsewhere” rather than “here.”

Pull yourself back to “here” and “now.”  Give yourself permission to be present.  When we are somewhere else, while others are here with you, you are doing them a disservice.  After all, this is the moment to cherish!

This is a good message for all of us, who don’t know if we are coming or going, I know I will try to work on it.
