Setting Intentions

Posted - Jul• 16•15

“What is it you would like out of your life?”

“I don’t really know.  I haven’t given it much thought.  I’m too busy just trying to survive.”

We need to remember to set our intentions for what it is we would like in our day, our job, our relationships, and ultimately in this lifetime.   We have talked much about setting Beacons, which provide a destination for where we would like to be.   The Beacons can be life-long, or as simple as for the current day, hour, or moment.

Setting an “intention” is simply making a decision on what it is you would like.  It might be as simple as “I am desiring an easy transition from the airport to the hotel.”  Or, it could be something more long-term, like “I am a doctor practicing at the city hospital.”

Intention setting need not be wordy.  It can be as simple as a couple of words, such as “I am happy.”   Sometimes, when figuring out your intentions for a trip, an interaction, a project at work, or the school year for your children, you can sit quietly and think about and envision how you would like those things to go.

As an exercise, you might want to set an intention on how you would like to age.  Think about not what you do not want, but rather what you would like.  That is the difference between attracting the negative, which you are trying to avoid, and attracting the positive, which you are trying to bring to your self.  Remember, that what you give the energy of your thoughts, is what you will get “more of” in your life.

So, how would you like to age?   Think about that today, and set your intentions.  Remember, that you can always alter your intention as time goes on.  After all, it’s much easier to plot your course after you reach the mountain’s summit then when you are in the valley below.

Back to the aging intention.  Think about the health of your physical body.  Think about how you would like your emotional state to be.  Think about your relationships and who you would like to “grow old” with.  Now, anchor those thoughts in a Beacon, and start taking the next steps towards that Beacon.

Suppose you said that you would like to be in good health, able to walk up and down stairs, able to live in your home, etc.  Well, now is a good time to look at your diet, your exercise regiment and what else you might do so that you can arrive at that Beacon.

Setting intentions is only part of the process to attract the people, events, and things into your life.  The other part, is actively pursuing those intentions!
