Spontaneity

Posted - Sep• 12•14

Some things needs to be planned.  For example, a family vacation that involves air fare, hotel, etc., needs to be purchased in advance so that you know that you will be able to have a place to stay and a way to get to where you are going.

Other things, are best to be left to spontaneity.  For example, a last-minute date with your mate, a “drop in” visit from a friend, or  a night to sit by the fire with a book you’ve been wanting to read.   When we leave room in our schedule open for spontaneity, we allow for the universe to guide us where we need to go.

Suppose you are going home from work one evening.  The family is out for the night, and you decide to stop for a cup of coffee at your favorite book store.  As you are standing in line, you look over and see a book on display that catches your eye.  You end up purchasing and reading that book, which has a dramatic impact on your life.   Had you not allowed yourself to be “guided” you may have missed that opportunity for growth.

Sure, when you schedule your days there is still room for guidance from the universe.  However, the universe becomes limited in the guidance that it can provide.   Leaving yourself open to life allows for the freedom to enjoy your life as it presents itself to you.

When we plan every minute of every day, and every day of every week, we are making decisions about what we think we need to be doing, sometimes far in advance.  As a result, when someone offers you last-minute tickets to an event, you will have to decline.   When your child tells you he is staying home on a Friday night, you may have missed an opportunity to connect with him.

Leave room in your life to allow for the unexpected.   Make the plans that you feel you need to make to allow for some structure in your life – then let go of the rest of your calendar and allow for the universe to guide you on this journey!
