Sometimes, we need to think outside of the box! That means, when our heart is telling us one thing, but society at large disagrees, we need to follow our heart.
It might not be so obvious, though. There are times when we might simply dismiss something without much thought. After careful evaluation, we come to the realization that our premature dismissal may have been coming from the ego. The ego reflects society.
For example, suppose you meet someone who you really like, but you choose not to date him or her simply because they may not seem very attractive. You like them, but are afraid at what your friends might think. Another example might be with material things. The car that you drive might have cost more than what you really wanted to spend, simply because you don’t want to feel embarrassed when you drive your friends.
Other decisions may not be so obvious. Maybe you choose to take a higher paying job so that you can look good to those around you. As such, you really didn’t consider taking the lower paying job, even though you liked the work more. When we do things like accepting higher paying jobs without much analysis, we are really flying on “auto pilot.” We are letting the societal views and our ego affect our decision-making.
How many times have you been in a conversation where the majority of people are speaking on one side of an issue, and you are afraid to voice the minority view that you hold? When we stand up for what we believe in, and think outside of the norm, we are expressing our truth. Our truth comes from within. My truth, is different with your truth – but that does not matter. What matters is that we all find our own truth, and live it!
Take the time today to observe yourself. Watch your behaviors around your friends and co-workers. Look around your home to see the areas of your life where you “went along with the crowd,” rather than sticking to your own truth. Then decide how you might have done things differently and how that might make your feel.

When we stand by our inner-truth we cannot go astray. The world has a “herd mentality” that encourages conformity. Take back your truth and step outside of the herd!
