Suffering is a State of Mind

Posted - Dec• 24•15

“Do we all have to go through suffering?”

“No, suffering is a state of mind.”

When we feel like someone is “suffering” we are assuming that we understand what is going on in their life.  That is an assumption that is made out of ignorance and coming from the ego.  When we truly understand someone, we realize that we do not have any idea what they are going through.  We understand that we cannot ever really “know” anyone – including ourselves.

When we think we “know” someone, we belittle them.  When we think we “know” ourselves, we quit growing.  Life is not about “knowing” but rather about “learning.”  When we are in a constant state of “learning” about ourselves and our friends and family, we continue to grow.  We grow internally, as well as in the relationship.

Yes, many times growth comes from “struggle.”  However, that “struggle” does not imply “suffering.”  Suffering is coming from an internal conflict within one’s self.  Suffering can come from external sources as well, but can only become “suffering” with your permission.  When we “suffer” we are living externally, and not from our core self.   That is not to belittle, a person’s struggles, by any means.  It’s just that “struggle” does not have to include “suffering.”

When we wake up and realize that we control our reality with our thoughts, we will realize that everything that we perceive and process is fully within our grasp.  However, when we realize that we are part of the universal flow of energy, we begin to understand that there is no need to “control” in the first place.  That is the dichotomy of life!
