The Beats of Life

Posted - Apr• 10•14

As we “tick” through the “beats of our life” we may feel like everyday is much the same.  During our work week, we get up in the morning, get ready for work, drive to work, do our work, come home, and have a few hours to relax.  Then we go to bed, and get up the next morning and do it all over again.

The weekends come slowly and leave quickly.  It seems that our life is somewhat on “auto pilot” because we are always doing somewhat of the same thing.  For those not yet working, it may seem like a similar situation with school.  Then when summer hits, that quickly becomes a little routine and depending on what you do during the summer, it can become a bit boring as well.

Life does not need to be on “auto pilot.”  When we awake each day, we need to set an intention as to how we would like our day to go.  We need to let ourselves get off of the “auto pilot track” and do things a little different.  If we have children still at the home, the intention might be to figure out a way to connect with them.  Maybe that night after work, and the homework is all done, the family plays a game.  How would that look in the middle of the week?

Maybe we look at ways we can connect with our mate, our parents, our friends and co-workers.  Life does not need to only be lived on Saturdays and Sundays.  Life can go on during the work week as well. Let yourself live a little, but to live with intention.  We need to set intentions for our days, hours, and sometimes even minutes so that we do not let that time slip through our fingers unnoticed.

Take note of what is going on in your day.  What is your emotional radar telling you?  Are you anxious, bitter, angry, or are you happy, joyful, and energetic?  If you are the former, it may be time for you to change your thoughts, or your attitude toward your job, co-workers or you life in general.

Tell the ego that you are going to be happy and you do not care to hear all the ways you should feel hurt.  Tell the ego that you are going to live your life with the intentions that you set, rather than letting others implicitly direct your life.

Do something different each day.  Maybe one day get up early and take a walk in the brisk weather outside.  Maybe on another day, you get up ten minutes early and meditate in the spare room.  Maybe one night, you lay on the floor and play with your children.  The options are unlimited, but for some reason when we are in the midst of the “rat race” we do not see any options.

Life keeps on ticking by with each swing of the chime on the clock.  It is up to you to live each “tick” to its fullest and to live with the intentions that you define.
