The Fear Challenge

Posted - May• 23•16

When things do on go the way that you planned, or the way that you want them to go, it is an opportunity for your growth.  Think about something that you once feared, but now no longer fear that thing.  Maybe you had a fear of dogs, until you got to know and love a dog – that fear disappeared.   Maybe you had a fear of not having a job, until you were laid off and found a much better job.

When we are afraid of something that is unknown to us, but we feel it must be bad, we should face those fears or let them go.  Why be afraid of snakes if you seldom encounter one?  Maybe you should go to a petting zoo and hold a snake.  That would be a way to step into your fear and use that fear for self-growth.

There are so many fears of the unknown that we expend our energy towards, that it prevents us from enjoying the current moment.  It’s like giving up what you currently have today, for something “bad” that may or may not happen in the future.  Think about that for a minute.  Are you so worried about something that you fear happening in the future, that you are not seeing the happiness and joy around you today?

We have a challenge for you today.  We can refer to it as the “fear challenge.”  When you catch yourself worrying about something happening to you in the future, quickly replace that thought with something for which you are grateful for today.  Replace fear with gratitude.  That is your challenge for today and the rest of the week.  If you do so long enough it will eventually become habit.

If fear is overcoming your life, you might want to consider facing those fears head-on, and taming them.  When we step towards our fears rather than running away from them, we will often find that there was really nothing to fear in the first place.
