“Did you think you were going to miss the free throw?”
“No, I only focused on making it.”
“Didn’t the crowd make you nervous?”
“I pretended I was shooting on my driveway, and tuned out the crowd.”

When we have confidence in our lives, we are able to do great things. A person with confidence is like a person with an “assistant” running around making sure everything goes as planned. When you exhume confidence in your life, you are acting from a place of “inner knowing.” It’s as though you have found the secret that so many others pursue. The secret that a person with confidence has discovered is that he will adapt to any situation, and succeed, even if others perceive failure.
Think about a person that is walking on a balance beam placed on the ground. At first there might not be any worry about falling off of the beam, and she might not take it seriously. But, later, when the practice continues she will be able to do great things on the beam without falling. However, she knows that if she falls she will not get hurt. Now, place the beam on the roof of two buildings high up in the air. Things change, and the confidence level might go down.
When we know that we will be “caught” if we fall, we can walk across the beam as though it’s placed on the ground. It’s when the beam appears to be high in the sky, that our confidence may waver. The people who place the beam high in the sky, and walk across it as though it’s inches from the ground are the ones that understand life. They understand that even if they “fall” high off the ground, they will not “hit” the ground. They know that they will figure out a way to adapt to whatever situation is placed in front of them.
As a result, people with high levels of confidence appear to be taking great risks in their careers and their lives, but to them they know no different. It’s as though the beam is placed on the ground, while to others it looks to be high in the sky. Those people do not take on stress, but remain in a state of peace and calm. It’s as though they know they cannot fall.
