The Secret to Happiness

Posted - Aug• 26•14

“How can you be so happy all of the time?”

“I don’t know.  I just am.”

“Can you teach me to be happy.”

“I can try, but it would be easier if you just commit to happiness.”

“What do you mean by that.”

“That means you decide that you will always be happy. No matter what.”

“No matter what?”

“Yup, no matter what happens, or what is going on in your life, you commit to being happy.”

“Okay, I’ll do it.”

Happiness is not something that is bestowed upon you.  No, happiness comes from inside of you, along with all of the other emotions.  For some, they decide to let the frustrations, anger, and bitterness consume their emotional state.  For others, they decide to let, peace, calm, happiness and joy consume their emotional state.

In both cases, the people involved could easily switch their emotional state to the “other side,” but seldom make that decision to do it.  Much like we commit to eating healthy, exercise, or a relationship – we commit to happiness.  Happiness is no secret.  It can be enjoyed by any and all people – it’s just that few choose happiness.  That is the secret.

Happiness must be chosen and committed to.  Much like you force a smile on your face when taking a photo, you might need to at first “force” happiness.  How do you do that you might ask?  Well, the first step is in making a commitment to happiness.   That commitment states that “no matter what happens today, no matter how I feel, I will experience a state of happiness.”

When we make a commitment to happiness, we then need to remind ourselves of that commitment throughout the day.  Maybe you set yourself an hourly reminder on your electronic gizmo to “be happy.”   It is not something that you just say, but rather something that you believe in and commit to doing.  You need to believe that happiness comes from inside.  Happiness comes from the same place within you that produces all of the other positive emotions, as well as the negative ones.

You need to believe that you truly are in control of your own happiness – and only your happiness.  However, when you are happy, you will raise the level of happiness around the world.  You might find like a pebble being dropped into a lake creates ripples that dissipate as they flow further and further away from the initial splash – that happiness will be shared most by those around you.

Think about your home.  How will it be different if you are always in a state of happiness?  Do you think the other people in your home and your family will start to experience a little more of their own happiness?  Happiness is learned by example, and you can be that example for all as your enter the new world that you are creating!

Be the person that is the beacon in the night that is always shining brightly no matter the storm outside.  Be the person that you care to be, by simply making the commitment to happiness.  When you do that you will see that there is much to be happy about!
