The Time is Now

Posted - Jul• 06•16

We need to celebrate and appreciate every day that we awake on this planet.  When we receive the gift of another day of life, we need to appreciate and live it.  This lifetime is so short, yet there is a tendency to think that there will “always be time.”

So, what is your “there will always be time?”  You may not consciously believe that there will always be enough time to do the things that you want to do, but at some level your inaction indicates that you believe it.   When we do not act on something in our life, we are saying that the “something” is not important enough for acting upon, or we feel at some level there will be another time for acting.

When we assume that there will be “another time” for acting on our life’s desires, we are putting that desire off possibly indefinitely.  Look at the things that are important to you, yet you continually make excuses on why you cannot act upon them.  Yes, we know that in order to take a trip around the world you will need lots of time, and lots of money.  However, what about a trip to the swimming pool followed by a picnic in the park with your family?

Not everything can be done right now, and some things may never happen.  However, the question that you should be asking is, “what is important to me right now, that I am not seeing?”   Maybe you have young children running around the house.  In a decade or so, the house might be empty as they go off into the world.  Are there things that you are delaying because you feel like you have lots of time?

The same is true of relationships.  Are you spending all of your time at work building your career at the expense of a relationship that may last beyond your working years?  What are really your priorities?  The more we “wait” for another time, the more we may not be able to ever do.  Yes, work is important.  Yes, your career may be important to you.   However, there is something called “balance” that can allow for you to continue to have personal relationships and a successful career.

Life is way to short to assume anything will be there in the future.  Set your sights on beacons in the short-term, while keeping an eye on those down the road.  But do not let a day pass by without taking advantage of it!
