The voice that you hear in your head is not you. It’s not your spirit, either. That voice is the part of you that is connected to the ego. It continuously chatters in such a way that it distracts you from living your life. The question is how do you quiet that voice?
The first step in quieting the voice that is speaking to you, sometimes day and night, is to sit quietly in meditation. You can sit anywhere and simply observe the voice that is chattering in your head. Once you realize that the voice is not you, and you begin to recognize and hear that voice, you can begin to quiet it.
Know that you are not that voice, but rather your non-physical self is sitting “behind you” in observation. It’s okay to let the voice do it’s thing. The key is to get to a point where you can simply observe the voice rather than letting it control you. The “voice” that is running in your head encourages you to get angry, frustrated, hurt, fearful, etc. It is not a voice that is wicked by any means. It is simply trying to protect you, by helping you keep yourself closed.
By “closing” your emotions can be protected from the outside world. The problem though, is when the outside world penetrates the cracks in your walls and still “triggers” those emotions – everything comes up again. The voice is the “protector” of yourself, but it is not allowing you to be free. When you are truly free, you will allow the voice to speak, but do so as an observer. Much like you observe a movie from the audience.
When we begin to recognize that we have a voice that is playing non-stop in our head, we can begin to see how it is working. We are not suggesting that you completely “shut off” the voice, because it is alerting you to emotional areas of need. When you allow the voice to do its thing, and you can keep a positive emotional state, you have learned how to observe it and let everything pass through you. In the past, things may not have passed through you, but rather, they get “stuck” in your heart.
Take the opportunity to hear the voice, acknowledge it, and let things pass through you without obstruction, or emotional reaction. Watch the voice working on protecting you, by closing you down and not allowing you to be free. Appreciate the voice for showing you the areas that need work in your life, and allow it to speak. Eventually, the voice will begin to quiet itself, as you learn how to observe it.

The constant voice that is talking in our head, is there to protect you. However, that “protection” comes at a cost of freedom. When you learn to simply observe that voice, you will find that all of your insecurities and fears disappear!
