Thousand Steps

Posted - Apr• 17•15

“Little things” can have a big impact.  When we think that we have to have it all now, we let our impatience possibly immobilize us.   The best way to pull a stick out of the mud is with slow and constant pressure.  Jerking actions only make the stick go deeper into the mud.  Life is much the same.

When we make continuous, small improvements in our lives we are making progress towards our life-long beacons.   When we take small steps towards our beacons on a daily basis, no matter how small the steps, we will one day arrive at our destination.   Sometimes, the ego convinces you that small steps are useless, and may try to sway you to a “short cut.”  However, it is you that needs to understand that the greatest accomplishments usually are achieved only after continuous work towards a goal.

Think about the man who begins to lift weights.  The first day he goes to the gym he finds that little weight exhausts his muscles.   The next morning he looks in the mirror and things look the same.  Did he make any improvements in his muscles?  Absolutely. However, before he may be able to measure any improvements may take weeks or months.  The best things take time and a commitment.  The same is true in your life.

When we continually take small daily steps towards our beacons, we will someday realize that a thousand small steps is much more powerful that one giant step!  Further, the journey of those thousand steps, is part of the destination.   It’s not always about the destination, but rather the journey.

Let go of the need to have everything now.  Open up to the process and the journey of this lifetime and you will find that joy in those thousand steps!
