Trust Replaces Fear and Worry

Posted - Dec• 17•13

Trust is an interesting concept.  There are so many types of trust, or types of people, entities, and things for which you can place your trust.  For example, you should have tremendous trust in your mate.   For a healthy relationship, you must be able to trust each other.  When that trust starts to decay, the relationship is placed in jeopardy.

How can one begin to trust again after someone has so-called “betrayed” that trust you might ask?   The first thing we need to look at is what is trust, before we can answer that question.   Each person needs to define for themselves what s/he thinks trust means.  It is also good to share that definition with your mate in the case of a romantic relationship or a spouse.

You may be surprised at the differences in definitions.  What you believe to be trust may have similarities to your mate’s definition of  trust, but also may contain many differences.  It is the differences in the definitions that you need to address with each other.   Think of this as a topic for discussion when the two of you are alone and looking to connect with each other.

Trust is much like the concept of love in that each person views it a little differently, while there are some common themes across most people.  In the case of a mate, trust might be an understanding that you both are romantic only with each other.  That seems obvious, but what about other areas of spiritual and emotional relationships?  For most, those types of relationships are okay, but for some they may long for that type of relationship with their mate who may be looking elsewhere.

Neither is “right” or “wrong”, but this concern needs to be addressed in order to avoid it impacting the relationship in the future.

There are other types of trust.  For example, trust in the company for which you work, trust in the school for which you attend, trust in the government for where you live, etc.  The question is how much, if any, should you trust these entities, and what again is the definition of trust in these cases?

That is something for which you need to look inside to understand.  Do you think that your company has your interests in its decision-making process?  Should it?   Rather than feeling “wronged” when the lay off occurs, maybe you should evaluate the situation from another view-point - that being the view-point of the company in this case.  If the company makes decisions based only on your interests, than what would happen to the other employees?  If the company bases decisions only on the interests of its employees than will the company make a profit and survive, or will it end up closing its doors leaving everyone without a job?

Trust may seem like a simple concept but it is often confused with normal decision-making.   Someone may say, “the government doesn’t care about us, or we would have health insurance.”  Or another might say, “if the government cared about us it would not spend money to insure the poor but would let me keep more of my own hard-earned money.”   We are not saying either opinion is better than the other.  We are only showing the differences in opinion regarding a concept presented by the government.

As a result of opinions regarding various things, people may jump to the conclusion that they either trust, but usually that they do not trust a person or entity because of a decision made by that person or entity.  The concern is whether or not “trust” is the correct usage of that concept in these cases.

Suppose your child is late to school one day in the year.  Should the teacher discontinue “trusting” your child for everything, such as, they will turn in their homework, be cordial and polite, and be on time for the rest of the year?  Well,  how about an employer, or employee regarding their company?  Should we generalize one incident to the entire concept of “I no longer trust them for anything?”

Trusting in the universe is another concept of trust.   The universe provides what you need exactly when you need it, if you put forth the energy with integrity to the universe for the people, events and things that you would like to attract into your life.  For example, suppose you want to earn a college degree, but you do not get accepted into the school for which you applied.  Does that mean that you are not to go to college?

It could mean that maybe the universe is guiding you to a different college, maybe so that someday you can meet your lifelong mate.  Or maybe the universe if guiding you to college at a little different time in your life so that you can have more success.  The reasons for why things go the way they do can never be explained, but “trusting” that they are going the way you need them to go is an important concept.

Trust that you are right where you need to be at this moment in time, that could mean financially, health wise, or the literal location of where you are right now.  When you trust that everything is right where it is supposed to be in the so-called “perfect order,” you can let go of futile thoughts and emotions such as fear and worry.

As you go about this day, look for areas where you have fear, worry, or anxiety and see how those emotions might be replaced with trust.  Then figure out how you can convince yourself to in fact believe in that trust.

Trust allows for the release of fear and worry since when you trust that the universe is keeping you on the track for which you belong, there is no reason to fear anything or to worry about the future.
