“It’s not about me.  It’s not about you.  It’s about us!”

When we look at life, we often see things through the glasses of ourselves.  Some people see things through the glasses of others.  However, the real way to see things is through a shared set of glasses that represents all.

When we only see things through our own perspective, we are not having empathy and understanding for others.  When we only see things from another’s perspective, we are ignoring our own self.  The key is to have balance in how we perceive and react to the world around us.

Take for instance, a situation where you cannot understand how a person feels, or thinks a particular way.  Maybe you are not trying to see their perception of the situation because it differs so much from your own perception.  That may take some practice, but you should strive to understand their perspective.

Similarly, there may be a situation when all you can think about is the other person.  You have empathy and sorrow for their situation, making your own situations look trivial.  However, it is important that you continue to acknowledge yourself and allow for yourself to be real in the world.

Living in a populated world with billions of people can be challenging.  We tend to gravitate to those that are similar to ourselves.  To achieve balance in the world, we need to allow and accept everyone – especially those that are much different from ourselves
