What Can I Learn From This?

Posted - Apr• 24•15

When we are going through a difficult time, at some point it is good to step back and ask, “what am I to learn from this?”  The question may lead to many insights – in particular, it may uncover the truth of your own accountability in the situation.

Many times, we take ourselves out of the role of having any accountability for things that “happen to us.”  Yes, there are situations when there is a criminal act, and the victim should not feel responsible.  Those situations do not apply.  What we are talking about here is having a sense of responsibility for events where we might have a tendency to blame others.

Let’s suppose you are fired from your job.  There may be a tendency to blame your boss or your co-workers.  However, when you look at the situation and the events leading up to the firing objectively, you might see that some of your actions could have been the cause.  If you evaluate and run the “game film” on your behaviors you might be able to modify those things in your next job.  If not, it’s likely you will continue to repeat those patterns over and over again.

When we finally learn the lesson, we can quite getting the “tests” and move on to something else.  However, if we never learn the “lesson” we will continually be tested in this lifetime and future lifetimes.

Today, is a good day to observe yourself.  Look for areas where you are not taking responsibility for events of which you play a role.  Ask yourself, what I can do differently the next time.  Replace, the word “you” with “I” in your interactions during difficult or challenging times – both at work and at home.  Let go of the need to criticize others, and look for ways you can grow within yourself.  Open up to everyone, and let the world be as it is!

Asking yourself, “what can I learn from this?” is a good question to ask during difficult or challenging times.  Take responsibility and accountability for your own role in the situations, and work through the lesson in front of you.  Soon you will graduate on to the next lesson presented by the universe!
