When We

Posted - May• 01•14

“Well, what are you waiting for?  Jump.”

“I know, just give me a minute.”

The boy then, took a deep breath and made the perfect dive from the high board into the pool.  His friend quickly followed with a less spectacular jump into the pool.

“That was great.  I can’t believe that was your first try.”

“Ya, I guess it wasn’t going to be as scary and difficult as I had thought it would be.”

Sometimes in life we wait for the perfect moment to try new things.  Sometimes we wait for the perfect moment to follow our passions.  Sometimes, we wait forever thinking that someday in the future things will be better.  We tell ourselves, “when the kids are grown, I’ll have more time.  When we retire we’ll have the money we need.”   The list of “when we’s” seems to grow.

Life is about the “now.”  It’s not about waiting until “later.”  We understand that there is a theory about delaying gratification.  For example, when you give a child a piece of candy, some think it is best if the child does not eat that candy until later.  In a sense, showing some self-discipline for delaying their gratification.

Yes, there may be times when it makes sense.  For example, if you have only enough money to buy groceries one day a week, it would be best if those groceries last throughout the week.  Eating all of the food on the first day may cause problems down the road.  These concepts are not what we are speaking of, though.

We are speaking of the concept of “I can’t do this now because…”  You may fill in the blank with any excuse that you have used.  Be honest with yourself and you may think they are valid excuses, because you feel you have a “lack.”   A lack of money, lack of time, lack of talent, lack of education, etc.

When we come from a place of excuses and “lack” we put our energies in those areas, which just brings more of it.  If we say, “I would like to take a vacation, but I don’t have enough money and I can’t get off work”  those may be somewhat valid reasons.  But we should rephrase the sentence to, “I am going to find a vacation that I can afford, and that my job will allow.”

Do you see the shift in thinking and in energy?  Now, we are looking for solutions and placing our energy toward a solution.  We are setting a “beacon” and placing our energy toward reaching that beacon.  The universe will now use that energy to help bring it to you.

When we look for solutions, rather than stating our problems we are placing our mind, our focus, and our energy where we would like to be.  We are allowing ourselves, to attract the solution to us.   This is part of living in the “now.”

It also allows for us to state things that we can do at this moment in our lives.  We look for the less-expensive vacation which can be every bit as memorable as the lavish “trip around the world.”  We allow for adjustments to our “dreams” so that we can achieve our “dreams” at this moment in our lives.

A vacation with your children may be to a local hotel to play in the swimming pool for a single night, which may also be the most exciting thing in the world for your children, and for you.  When you do not give in to the lavish world that supposedly exists around you, you begin to appreciate the world for which you live.  After all, just like the concept of the “perfect body” the concepts of the “perfect home,”  “perfect family,” and “perfect vacation” do not exist.  For everything is perfect just the way it is, not the way someone else tells you it is supposed to be.

Take the time to turn your thoughts about “lack” and “problems” into thoughts about solutions.  Find a way to enjoy your life at this very moment, and you will find that your life is “perfect” the way it is.
