“What do you want to do next week? I’m bored and I don’t want another weekend like this one.”
“Well, there is an all university party next Friday night.”
“I’m in. Let’s do it.”
Little did I know that night would change my life forever. Often times, when someone says their life was changed forever, it is related to some tragic event. However, in this case, it was the best event that could ever happen to me.
Standing at the dance and surveying the room, I noticed a girl walking in my direction. She had an essence about her, with a smile to match. This girl would become my wife and the mother of my two children – however, I didn’t know that at the time. I could tell she was special and I knew that I needed to meet her.
As she approached, I quickly handed my drink to a friend and asked her to dance. I was waiting that night for the perfect person to ask – and she was it. We danced until the lights came on and the party ended. I could tell something different was going on, and my instincts were correct.
I went back to my apartment with my friends, and did my best to remember her name and number. I didn’t have all the information I needed, but enough to use a bit of detective work to acquire her phone number. The next time I talked to her on the phone, it was brief, since I was not the most experienced in dating girls.
On our first date, as we both recounted sometime later – we felt this “funky feeling.” It was as though I left my body and was watching the two of us walking down a long “pepto bismo” hall way. That was an experience I had never felt with anyone else nor by myself. Another indication that I should pay attention to this wonderful woman.
The proposal happened while backpacking through Europe together, and the wedding soon followed. Our dreams of “buying furniture” and a house together were fulfilled. This woman brought out the best in me, even during the more difficult times.
How can I say what life would be like had I not made that phone call to plan my evening a week in advance? The guides were at work, helping my find my way to my soul mate!
Now it is my Za’s birthday, and I want to let her know how much I truly love her. I cannot and will not imagine what my life would be like without her in it. Although, I know that someday we will have to part ways on this plane, I know with all my being that we will infinitely be together on the spiritual plane.
Life is short, but with the right person it can be so long. I can only hope that I remind myself of the gratitude I have for having my Za in my life. You mean the world to me, and you make the world a better place wherever you go.
When you enter a room, the energy level rises. When you smile, it is genuine and sincere. You truly care about everyone and every living being in this world, and give each person your most precious commodity – your attention. Yes, Za, this world and especially my life, is so much better with you in it!
I Love You Forever and Always!
