Supporting Another

Posted - Oct• 21•14

What does it mean to support another?   When we are in relationships, one of the assumptions of that relationship may be to support one another, but what does that mean?

To each person, “support” has different meaning.  To one person, “support” might come in the form of encouragement.  To another, “support” might be in terms of doing chores and tasks for the other person.  Each person has their own idea of “support.”   If you do not realize this, you may have difficulties in thinking that you are getting “support” from a loved one, because it is not coming in the way that you think it should.

Everyone has a different idea of how to behave in a relationship.  The interesting thing is that since no two people believe the same things, it may appear that the relationship is lacking.  However, since no two people ever have the same beliefs, it is impossible for someone to behave exactly as the other person would like.

If we can just understand that everyone has a different idea of how one should behave in the world and in relationships, and accept that behavior, you will save yourself much frustration.  When we accept others for their core self, and acknowledge they may do things differently than we would like, we will find more happiness.

No matter how much you might like a flower to change its colors, it is the color that it is.  Similarly, no matter how much you might like someone to behave and think differently, for them, it is the perfect “color.”  Become “color blind” and accept those around you for their spiritual self.
